What
is a Wormery?
|
A wormery is
a compost bin that uses special
composting worms to efficiently convert
organic kitchen waste into high quality
compost and a concentrated liquid feed.
Worms have been doing this work for many
millions of years and have perfected the way
to convert bio-degradable waste.
|
How
does it Work?
|
The Worm
Hive provides the right environment for
worms to live and multiply. The hive
has 3 stacking 'trays'. You
put your waste into a tray where the
worms are located and let them convert it into worm compost.
There are 3 trays so that when a tray is
full you put the waste in the tray above it.
The worms will migrate to this tray through
the holes in the tray bottom -leaving behind
the worm compost.
|
What
Kitchen Waste?
|
Worms are
good at converting organic kitchen waste. We
are talking of vegetable and fruit peelings,
apple cores, banana skins, tea leaves,
stale bread. Worms are not meat eaters so no
meats or dairy products.
|
What
does a Wormery Produce?
|
- Lovely
rich worm compost that can be used
anywhere in the garden
- As the
waste is composted a large volume of
liquid is released and caught in the
tank at the bottom of the hive. This
liquid is a valuable fertiliser which
after dilution with water can be used as
a liquid feed for your house and garden
plants.
|
Why
buy a Worm Hive?
|
There are some plastic
wormeries that do a very good
job. The "Can-O-Worms", "Worm Factory"", Worm
Works" to name just a few. The Worm
Hive does not compete with the
plastic hives on cost as it is hand
made. The hive has an inner core of plastic
with a wooden exterior. The wood
can be stained to any colour you like to fit
in with your garden colour scheme.
The
Worm Hive is an attractive and
functional piece of garden furniture.
